First Visit

This begins with the Pilgrims hearing the Gospel reading from Luke where the Angel brings the news to Mary that she is to be Mother of The Lord.
All then move to the Church and the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham whilst a Litany of Our Lady is sung. In this Litany we call upon Our Lady to pray for us, as we use a number of different titles which have been attributed to her (such as "Vessel of the Spirit" and "Consoler of the Afflicted").
Once in the Church and before the image of Our Lady of Walsingham, an anthem to Our Lady appropriate to the season is said. All then sing the Magnificat, the song of exultation sung by Our Lady. We use the well known version written by Timothy Dudley-Smith "Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord."
After a concluding prayer, pilgrims are invited to sit quietly in Church before the Mass begins.
