THE ANNUAL SPIRITUAL PILGRIMAGE TO THE
SHRINE OF OUR LADY OF WALSINGHAM

Laying on of Hands and Anointing of the Sick

In this Liturgy, pilgrims are invited to come up for the laying on of hands where the priest will pray in silence for them or those whom they know who are sick.

Those who have come forward for themselves are then invited to be anointed with the Oil of the Sick. Anointing with this oil, blessed by the Bishop in Holy Week, is the outward sign of the Sacrament of the Sick. The oil is anointed on the forehead and the palms of each hand.

The Sacrament does not end our human suffering. Instead it gives us a window into the love of God the Father, whose Son Jesus Christ shows us his wounded hands and side and shares his Peace with us.

After this Liturgy pilgrims return for Afternoon Tea. During this there is an opportunity for private confessions to be made and the next Liturgy to take place is the Procession of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction.
